Concert Choir to Preview European Tour Program

MANSFIELD, PA—The Mansfield University Concert Choir will present their final campus appearance of the academic year in Steadman Theatre on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.Concert Choir in Hershey, April 2The will be the Choir’s final performance before embarking on their eighth European Tour to take part in the 2017 Harmonie Festival in Limburg, Germany, in May.

More than six thousand singers from 219 choirs representing 37 different nations and cultures will join together in this festive competition.  The MU choir will perform in four separate categories:  Mixed Choir, Male Choir, Female Choir and Sacred Music.

The 15-day tour will take them to Amsterdam, The Hague, Bruges, Brussels, Cologne, Limbur, and Rüdesheim, some of the loveliest sites in Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

“The students are very excited about the prospect of visiting these countries, of experiencing new cultures, and sharing their choral music with audiences abroad,” Concert Choir Director Peggy Dettwiler said. “They have been working hard in rehearsing the repertory with which they will be traveling and competing; it is a fabulous group of 50 students, and I am sure they will be wonderful ambassadors for Mansfield University, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of America.”

The concert will feature works by Mendelssohn, Victoria, and Josquin des Prez from the historical canon, plus music from around the world, spirituals and favorites such as Danny Boy, Shenandoah and Precious Lord.

The concert promises to delight audience members with glorious singing as this is the premier touring choir of the university.  Please join them in Steadman Theatre on April 29 to give the choir a royal send-off for their international adventure.
